Samruk-Energy JSC to build CHP plants in Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk cities using clean coal technology

Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, Kairat Maxutov, held a meeting with the Governors of Abai region and East Kazakhstan region to discuss the construction of CHP plants in Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk cities.

During the meeting, the electrical and thermal capacities of the future plants were determined, taking into account growing demand and the long-term development of the regions. The parties also discussed the preparation of pre-design documentation, infrastructure construction plans for the CHP plants, and the heat supply schemes for the cities.

The management of Samruk-Energy JSC noted that work is currently being finalized to attract financing for the projects, ensure investment returns, and approve technological solutions.

Separately, Kairat Maxutov emphasized that the construction of the CHP plants will employ modern clean coal technologies designed to minimize environmental impact.

The Governors of Abai region and East Kazakhstan region stressed the importance of constructing the CHP plants for ensuring economic growth of the cities and expressed their readiness to provide full support in allocating land plots and implementing measures necessary for the timely construction of infrastructure facilities.

Following the meetings, the parties agreed to conduct regular monitoring of the implementation of the outlined plans and to ensure readiness for signing contracts on the design and construction of the CHP plants in Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk within the current year.

 

Bogatyr Komir increases coal production volumes

In January–July 2025, Bogatyr Komir LLP produced 24.5 million tons of coal, representing a 3.1% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Coal sales for the seven-month period of 2025 totaled 24.6 million tons, including:

-18.8 million tons supplied to the domestic market of Kazakhstan;

- 5.8 million tons exported.

As a result, the company’s total coal sales for the first seven months of 2025 grew by 1.9% year-on-year.

Executives of Samruk-Energy JSC and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC -Masdar hold meeting on WPP Project

Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy JSC Kairat Maxutov held a meeting with Abdullah Zayed, Director of Development and Investments at Masdar. The parties discussed key aspects of launching the construction of a large-scale 1 GW wind power plant in the Zhambyl region, including the timeline for the start of construction works.

A separate item of the negotiations focused on preparations for signing the EPC contract, which is essential for the timely transition to the practical phase of project implementation.

During the meeting, the parties highlighted the successful progress of the project driven by effective teamwork, and identified priorities for further cooperation. The participants reaffirmed their mutual commitment to the project’s timely implementation, stressing its importance for the sustainable development of the region and the country as a whole.

The management team of Samruk-Energy JSC, led by Chairman of the Management Board Kairat Maxutov, participated in the Kazakhstan–China Business Council (KCBC) in Beijing.

Within the framework of the KCBC, attended by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Samruk-Energy signed an agreement with China Southern Power Grid International (CSGI) on the joint implementation of the first pumped storage power plant project in Kazakhstan, as well as a strategic cooperation agreement with China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC).

Samruk-Energy’s Chief Investment Officer, Aidarov A.A., participated in the plenary session “Strengthening practical cooperation in energy and promoting sustainable green development.”

During the visit, Kairat Maxutov held a series of bilateral meetings:

- with Powerchina Shandong Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. (SEPCO1) to discuss the implementation of the project “Modernization of Almaty CHP-2 with Minimization of Environmental Impact”;

- with China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE) and Northeast Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. (NEPDI) to discuss technological modernization projects and prospective areas of innovative development;

- with Tebian Electric Apparatus (TBEA) to discuss the modernization of Alatau Zharyk Company JSC’s (AZhC) substation and potential cooperation in the application of automated and digital solutions in coal extraction and transportation.

Samruk-Kazyna Trust career guidance project: 30 teenagers from orphanages choose vocational professions

Earlier this spring, Samruk Umiti project was launched to support 100 teenagers from orphanages in Pavlodar and East Kazakhstan regions. The program helps them choose vocational professions, enroll in colleges, and find future employment within Samruk-Kazyna JSC group of companies.

So far, 30 out of 40 ninth-grade graduates have decided to continue their education at local colleges in trades such as mechanic, electrician, IT specialist, metalworker, cook, welder, and others.

The project’s results were presented by Alfiya Adiyeva, General Director of Samruk-Kazyna Trust Corporate Fund, at the National Youth Forum chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Yermek Kosherbayev.

As part of the initiative, teenagers from orphanages take part in company site visits and meetings at production facilities. They also undergo career guidance testing, learn about the labor market and real job opportunities, and develop essential skills in financial and legal literacy as well as personal growth. Each participant is supported by both a mentor and a coordinator. 

Samruk-Energy team wins third place at the 10th Samruk-Kazyna Spartakiad

Samruk-Energy JSC team ranked among the strongest at the 10th Anniversary Spartakiad (corporate sports games) of Samruk-Kazyna JSC group of companies. This large-scale sporting event, dedicated to the Year of Blue-Collar Professions, was held in Astana from August 8 to 10.

The Spartakiad brought together 14 teams representing companies of the Samruk-Kazyna group, with over 1,000 employees from across Kazakhstan, primarily workers in production and technical professions.

Competitions were held in 14 sports, including inclusive disciplines such as darts and table tennis, which welcomed employees with special needs.

Samruk-Energy was represented by 97 athletes from the Corporate Center and subsidiaries. They fought hard for medals and proved that energy means strength both at work and in sports.

As a result, the Samruk-Energy team took an honorable third place in the overall standings, winning a total of 11 medals: 3 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze.Gold medals were claimed by Erkin Kurmanbayev (chess), Ulyana Khataeva (swimming), and Asiya Kurmanbay (swimming).Silver medals went to Indira Baizhanova (arm wrestling), Tatyana Khalikova (swimming), and Galina Vida (darts).Bronze medals were earned by Talgat Duskaliyev (darts), Gauhar Kozhayeva (swimming), Zhiger Tileubekov (swimming), as well as the Samruk-Energy basketball and tug-of-war teams.In addition, AZhC electrician Almas Kaliullin was named Best Center Player in basketball.

Samruk-Energy JSC key operating results for the first half of 2025


In the first six months of 2025, the subsidiaries of Samruk-Energy JSC generated a total of 20.5 billion kWh of electricity, representing 50% of the annual plan and exceeding the actual figure for the same period in 2024.

Samruk-Energy continues to hold a leading 33% share of Kazakhstan’s electricity market.

Heat energy output for January–June 2025 reached 3.9 million Gcal, or 54% of the annual plan, also surpassing the result for the same period last year.

Bogatyr Komir LLP produced 21.2 million tons of coal in H1 2025, an increase of 2.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2024. Coal sales for the first half of 2025 also amounted to 21.2 million tons.

Electricity transmission (AZhC JSC) totaled 4.83 billion kWh (52.5% of the annual plan), higher than the result of H1 2024.

Electricity sales by (branch of AZhC Energosbyt) branch reached 4.76 billion kWh, or 53.8% of the annual plan, marking an increase compared to the first half of last year.

Samruk-Energy Chairman calls for tighter oversight of occupational safety at SA

Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, Kairat Maxutov, held a meeting on occupational safety to review the group’s performance for July 2025 and to discuss key issues and solutions.

During the meeting, the Director of the Occupational Health and Safety Department delivered a report highlighting current shortcomings in workplace safety and labor protection across the company's subsidiaries and affiliates.

Following the discussion, the Chairman instructed the heads of subsidiaries to strengthen oversight of occupational safety, prioritize the prevention of workplace injuries, and promote a stronger safety culture among employees.

Additionally, he ordered disciplinary action against those responsible for occupational safety at subsidiaries where safety standards had declined.

 

Samruk-Energy – Silver medalist of QAZAQSTAN QYZMET CUP 2025

The team of Samruk-Energy JSC took second place in QAZAQSTAN QYZMET CUP 2025, the national mini-football championship of Kazakhstan! This night-league format tournament brought together teams from government bodies, law enforcement agencies, and diplomatic missions.

In the group stage, Samruk-Energy team confidently defeated the teams of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan and BATYR TEAM of the MES, and also faced strong opponents from the KR MIA team and Astana сity education workers’ union team

In the playoffs, Samruk-Energy players delivered an outstanding performance. In the quarterfinals, they decisively beat the Parliament team, and in the semifinals, overcame the athletes of KEGOC JSC, advancing to the final. In a tense battle for the championship, the team was narrowly defeated by the National Railway Company “KTZh” team, earning a well-deserved second place.

Following the results of the tournament, Samruk-Energy team has been invited to take part in the QQC SUPER CUP 2025, the Championship of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to be held in Shymkent city from September 7 to 10.

 

 

"Talent architect": Samruk-Energy wins HR brand 2025 award

The results of the first “HR Brand 2025” competition among the group companies were announced at Samruk-Kazyna JSC. The aim of the competition is to identify and promote advanced and sustainable HR practices across the Fund’s portfolio companies.

Samruk-Energy JSC was named the winner in the "Talent Architect" category, recognizing the company’s high standards in identifying, developing, and retaining talented professionals.

This award reflects the professionalism of the HR team and is the result of a systematic approach to building a strong and resilient human capital base.

A total of nine companies participated in the competition, submitting 25 entries across five categories. All project submissions were based on real achievements in key areas such as recruitment and talent development, digitization of HR processes, talent management, and employee engagement.

The award ceremony concluded with an HR Talks session dedicated to current challenges and solutions in human resource management.
