Samruk-Energy and TotalEnergies to jointly develop wind power plant with energy storage system

As part of the upcoming Astana International Forum, senior executives from TotalEnergies, including Vice President for Project Development Delphine Merle and CEO of TotalEnergies Renouvelables France Thierry Muller, visited Kazakhstan.

Kairat Maxutov, Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, held a working meeting with the leadership of the French energy company to discuss the implementation of a 1 GW wind power plant project.

The parties reviewed progress on the “Mirny” wind energy project located in Zhambyl region and highlighted key milestones scheduled for 2025. This year, the focus will be on finalizing the detailed project design, signing contracts with major equipment suppliers, and engaging a general contractor.

Special attention was given to equipment localization, industrial cooperation, and the development of sustainable operation and maintenance (O&M) mechanisms.

The project is being implemented in line with Kazakhstan’s Strategy for Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2060 and the national goal of increasing the share of renewable energy sources to 15% by 2030. It has been designated as a priority initiative under the Intergovernmental Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the French Republic.

Both sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to the timely delivery of the project, emphasizing its importance for sustainable development and for strengthening the strategic energy partnership between Kazakhstan and France.
