External Audit of Corporate Governance System of "Samruk-Energy" JSC Group of Companies

In order to independently assess the corporate governance system's compliance with the requirements of the following international standards: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, ISO 37001, the first certification audit of the corporate governance system within “Samruk-Energy" JSC group of companies was successfully conducted from December 19th to December 27th, 2022. The certification audit was carried out by the independent international auditing company MS Certification Services.

The audit covered the following assets of the company group:  "Ekibastuz SDPP-1 named after B. Nurzhanov" LLP, "Ekibastuz SDPP-2 Plant" JSC, "Almaty Power Plants" JSC,  "Moynak HPP" JSC,  "Samruk Green Energy" LLP, "Alatau Zharyk Company" JSC, "AlmatyEnergoSbyt" LLP, "Shardarinsk HPP" JSC, "First Wind Power Plant" LLP, and the head office of “Samruk-Energy" JSC. This is one of the early instances of group certification within the energy sector across five international standards.

The certification was carried out in accordance with the procedures of the international conformity assessment body MS Certification Services, with the involvement of auditors of international caliber, led by Mr. A.K. Garg.

The corporate management system was implemented to facilitate effective and transparent management of "Samruk-Energy" JSC company group's operations. Aligned with the concept of sustainable development, the corporate governance system of "Samruk-Energyo" JSC group of companies covers integrated domains such as quality management, health and safety provision, environmental protection, energy efficiency, anti-corruption, and fraud prevention.

All of this will ultimately enable the functioning of a unified corporate management system at a higher quality level, as well as enhance the efficiency of energy supply to consumers by reducing not only technological costs but also costs related to certification and the operation of corporate government processes within "Samruk-Energy" JSC group of companies.

Construction of the 3rd power unit at Ekibastuz SDPP-2

Ekibastuz SDPP-2 Board of Directors made the decision on the approval of further implementation of the project for the construction of power unit No. 3 at the plant.  Bakitzhan Zhulamanov, the Chairman of the Management Board of “Samruk-Energy” JSC, informed this today during his speech at the Committee for Economic Policy, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship of the Senate of the RK Parliament. According to the head of the largest Kazakhstani power holding company, it is planned to complete the adjustment of the design estimate documentation of the project on the expansion and reconstruction of Ekibastuz SDPP-2 in 2020.

The construction of the new power unit at Ekibastuz SDPP-2 will increase its installed capacity by 636 MW.

In 2021, Samruk-Energy plans to file an application for obtaining an individual capacity tariff starting from 2025 to the Market Council within the framework of capacity market in order to ensure the return on the project.

It is worth reminding that “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC repurchased a 50 percent equity stake in the plant from the Russian “INTER RAO UES” OJSC in December 2019 and today the Fund owns “Ekibastuz SDPP-2 Plant” JSC in conjunction with “Samruk-Energy" JSC.

The issues of power industry and the uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers were discussed today in the Senate of the RK Parliament during a meeting of members of the Committee for Economic Policy, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship, the Committee for International Relations, Defense and Security with authorized agencies.
