“Samruk-Energy” JSC representatives took part in the work of the Central Asian regional seminar "Long-term planning of expansion of facilities with a high share of renewable energy sources", which was held for the first time in Astana from March 14 to 15, 2019.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the RK Ministry of Energy organized the seminar.
The intergovernmental organization IRENA supports countries in transition to new types of energy in line with sustainability concept. Representatives of government agencies from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, experts from the Technical University of Denmark and specialists from energy holding companies of Central Asian region countries arrived in the capital of Kazakhstan to exchange experience on the development of renewable energy sources.
It is no coincidence that IRENA made the decision to hold a seminar in Kazakhstan, as a regional leader in the field of renewable energy. This is because EXPO - 2017 gave a powerful impetus to the development of green technologies in our country in all dimensions: both in terms of increasing the share of clean technologies and creating a legal framework for their development. The growth of renewable energy technologies went hand in hand with a change in financing mechanisms including a refusal from less economically viable fixed rates and holding of power auctions / tenders on capacity, which are considered to be a more profitable way to develop renewable energy,”said Anuar Abitayev, “Renewable Energy Sources and Distribution” Department at “Samruk-Energy” JSC, the seminar participant.
Representatives of international organizations, CIS countries’ ministries employees who are in charge of the implementation of renewable energy resources policies, discussed the long-term planning to increase the share of renewable energy sources, issues of integration with the energy system, both in the global and in the regional perspective. In particular, such topics as modeling tools and methodologies aimed at supporting the introduction of advanced international practices in long-term energy planning for expansion of facilities with a high share of renewable energy were addressed.
According to Kazakhstan Ministry of Energy, as of today, there are 72 renewable energy facilities in our country, the total capacity of which is 633 MW. The volume of production of "green electricity" for 2018 (SPP, WPP, small hydropower plants with a capacity of up to 35 MW) have increased by 20.4% a year and amounted to 1335,2 mln. kWh. “Samruk-Energy” JSC enterprises - small HPP, WPP and SPP (according to the Law on RES) produced 355, 4 mln. kWh of "clean" electricity, accounting for 26.6%, in the mentioned period. The share of renewable energy in the energy mix of Kazakhstan is planned to increase from 1% to 3% by 2020.
