On the eve of the International Women's Day on March 8, the Statement of Support for the Principles of Women's Empowerment developed within the UN-Women partnership and the United Nations Global Compact was signed at “Samruk-Energy” JSC premises.
Samruk-Energy in conjunction with the European Bank for Development and Reconstruction (EBRD) and Ergon Associates (Ergon), its consultants implements the project under which a statement of support for 7 Principles of Women's Empowerment was signed. This document involves the adherence to the principles of gender equality as a key element of sustainable development, as well as the conviction that companies that provide equal opportunities for women and men are more successful and achieve better results. The project began its work in June 2018 and will complete it in September 2019.
The document was signed with the participation of Bakitzhan Zhulamanov, the Chairman of the Board of “Samruk-Energy” JSC and of Ergon Associate representatives.
As representative of Ergon Associates noted, Samruk-Energy has all possibilities to be a real leader in the field of equal opportunities in Kazakhstani power sector, as well as to build its public profile as an up-to-date and progressive company. There is a strong commitment to equal opportunities with a strong political foundation at the company’s management level.
As it is known, “Samruk-Energy” JSC has joined the UN Global Compact in 2011 and follows the 10 principles of this document in its strategy and daily activities. “Our energy holding company aims to not just develop human rights policy, but focus on key issues related to promoting gender equality, empowering women,” said Bakitzhan Zhulamanov, CEO of “Samruk-Energy” JSC.
As of today, about 4 700 women work at the group of companies of the largest Kazakhstani power holding company. More than 630 of them hold executive positions.
“Samruk-Energy” JSC is the largest power holding company in Kazakhstan, 100% owned by “Samruk-Kazyna” SWF JSC. It was established in 2007. Core business: electricity and heat production; transmission, distribution and sale of electricity, power coal mining.
