“Samruk-Energy” JSC took the second place in the nomination “The best annual report in the non-financial sector” as part of annual competition held by the rating agency Expert RA Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) following the performance results for 2017. 107 annual reports of Kazakhstani companies, including 43 financial and 64 non-financial organizations, were submitted to the competition. The documents were evaluated by an expert commission, which comprised representatives from Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, the World Bank executives, “PricewaterhouseCoopers” LLP and KASE.
“The annual report is one of the means of communication and reporting form for a shareholder, investors and other stakeholders. High-quality annual report allows Companies to improve corporate governance rating as well as it plays a key role in creating of a positive image. We undoubtedly strive to be the best; however, we do not want to make a report for the sake of a report. The main criteria for evaluating documents were the content of the annual report, the completeness of disclosing important areas of the company's areas of business, the depth of analysis of sales markets, availability of competitive advantages and coherence of the document. Moreover, experts highlighted the wealth of non-standard information that was of interest to potential readers (both specialists, common shareholders and investors).
In the general rating, as regards the level of annual reports’ quality, “Samruk-Energy” JSC took the 5th place and moved up four positions in comparison with the results of 2016 competition on performance results.
The content of the annual report includes four main areas: market analysis, description of the company's business strategy, value creation activities and financial performance. The goal of the annual report competition is to promote effective disclosure of information to stakeholders by companies.
