August this year marks three –years anniversary of commissioning of the first industrial type wind power plant (WPP) in Kazakhstan. It is located near Ereymentau city in Akmola region.
The facility received the Certificate of Ereymentau WPP State Acceptance Committee in August 2015. On December 11, 2015, N.Nazarbayev, the head of state was reported about the commencement of the plant’s commercial operation during the National Teleconference "New Industrialization of the Country: the leap of Kazakhstani snow leopard".
The 45 MW wind power plant produced more than 500 million kWh of electricity during this period. The project, which was implemented by “First Wind Power Plant” LLP, “Samruk-Energy” JSC subsidiary, makes a significant contribution to improving the power balance of Akmola region and environmental protection.
The company's wind farm consists of 22 wind turbines, each 2.05 MW (manufactured by FWT, Germany) and own new 220 / 35KV substation. During the operation of the wind farm, 23 workplaces were created, 12 of them from are residents of Ereymentau city. The operation of this wind farm makes it possible to produce 172.2 million kWh of electricity every year without the use of organic fuel and CO2 emissions. 100% of all produced electricity goes to the National Power Grid of Kazakhstan. It should be noted that facilities of the International Specialized Exhibition "EXPO-2017" were provided with electricity owing to the energy generated by Ereymentau WPP.
To date, renewable energy sources (solar, wind, small HPPs) account for 1.5% of the total installed capacity in the structure of electricity generated by Samruk-Energy companies. Every third Kazakhstani kilowatt-hour of green energy was produced by “Samruk-Energy” JSC subsidiaries in 2017.
According to “Samruk-Energy” JSC long-term development strategy for 2018-2028, in order to switch to the principles of "Green Economy”, the company intends to implement RE projects jointly with the strategic investor.
The concept for transition of the RK to the "green economy" approved by the Decree of the RK President dated May 30, 2013 provides for the achievement of the following target indicators of RES development in total generation of electricity in the RK:
- • 3% - by 2020 (including solar power plants (SPP) and wind power plants (WPP);
- • 10% - by 2030 (including SPP, WPP);
- • 50% - by 2050 (including SPP, WPP, HPP, NPP).
According to the data of the RK Ministry of Energy, currently 55 enterprises operate in Kazakhstan using renewable energy sources with a total installed capacity of 336 MW. The volume of electricity production by facilities that use RES (SPP, wind farms, small HPPs up to 35 MW) for 2017 amounted to 1 109 million kWh and 651.1 million kWh in the first half of 2018. The share of renewable energy in the total generation amounted to 1.08% in 2017.
REFERENCE: The project “45 MW Ereymentau Wind Power Plant” was implemented by "FWPP" LLP (100% subsidiary of "Samruk-Energy" JSC). The power plant is located in Akmola region, 3 km from Ereymentau city and takes the territory of 60 hectares.
