Coal for Kazakhstani power plants

The largest coal mining enterprise of Kazakhstan “Bogatyr Komir” LLP plans to extract and ship to consumers more than 41 million tons of coal this year.

As “Samruk-Energy” JSC experts note, this output can be exceeded, since as of today the company received requests for supply of 44.6 million tons.

Approximately 97 percent of shipped coal will be directed to power generating companies for electricity and heat production.

In the total volume of planned production at Bogatyr Komir, 33.11 million tons are allocated for “Bogatyr” open-pit coal mine, 7.19 million tons for “Severny” open-pit coalmine.

It is worth reminding that at the end of last year, with a planned figure of 33.9 million tons; actual coal production at the enterprise was 40.8 million tons. This is about 119.2 percent of the planned volume. The volume of overburden (removal of an empty rock that covers deposits of minerals during extraction by open method) was fulfilled by 117.9 percent in 2017. With the planned 23.30 million cubic meters, the actual figure was 27.46 million cubic meters.

It is planned to increase the supply of “Bogatyr Komir” LLP coal in 2018 by 13.5% compared to 2017, incl. through supplies to new consumers: “Topar” SDPP”LLP “Sogrinskaya CHP” LLP and by increasing shipments to "Pavlodarenergo” JSC, CHP-2,3.

Today, “Bogatyr Komir” LLP accounts for 60 percent of all coal produced in the Ekibastuz coal basin and 40 percent of total coal production in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Reftinskaya, Troitskaya power plants (Russia), Ekibastuzs SDPP-1, Ekibastuz SDPP-2, Almaty and Stepnogorsk CHP, “Karaganda Energocenter” LLP (CHP-1, CHP-3), “SevKazEnergo” JSC "Astana-Energia" JSC (CHP-1, CHP-2), MUS "Kokshetauzhylu", "Pavlodarenergo" JSC, "Bassel Group LLS" LLP (Karaganda) are among the main consumers of the company.

“Bogatyr Komir” LLP is managed by “Samruk-Energy” JSC and Russian “Rusal” UC on a parity basis. The company conducts open-pit mining at “Bogatyr" and "Severny" open-pit coal mines in the Pavlodar region of Kazakhstan. The balance reserves of “Bogatyr Komir” LLP are 2.75 billion tons. The enterprise’s production capacity is 42 million tons of coal per year, including “Bogatyr” open-pit coal mine - 32 million tons, “Severny” open-pit coal mine - 10 million tons.
