“Samruk-Energy” JSC held the section "Future energy - Prospects for the Development of Global Energy" in the thematic block "Balance of the Energy Trilemma: Security, Accessibility and Environmental Sustainability" as part of World Scientific and Engineering Congress in Astana on June 19.
The moderators of the section were Luca Sutera, Independent Director, member of the Board of Directors of “Samruk-Energy” JSC and “KEGOC” JSC and Almassadam Satkaliyev, Chairman of the Board of “Samruk-Energy” JSC.
World -known and recognized professors of Stanford University, CEOs of start-up companies and global experts in power industry from the USA, Great Britain and Russia arrived in Astana at the invitation of “Samruk-Energy” JSC in order to participate in WSEC-2017.
Friedrich Prinz, scientist, professor of the Stanford University School of Engineering, Turgut Gur, professor of materials science, founder and director of the clean fuel technologies program at Stanford University communicated their vision of the power industry’s future.
Oleg Kuznetsov, the head of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Anatoly Spitsyn, vice-president of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, the director of the Institute for Strategic Studies of Integration Problems of the Eurasian Economic Community, Oleg Protsenko, the doctor of economic sciences, professor, the full member of the Academy of Natural Sciences shared opinion on the possibilities of RES development.
Chen Xianming, Vice President of the State Enterprise "China International Water and Electric Corporation", Sergey Katyshev, Secretary of the WEC(World Energy Council) Kazakhstan Committee , Lars Schernikau, founder and shareholder of HMS Bergbau AG, member of International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) made a thematic report on the practice, prospects and special aspects of energy transition.
Professor William Hupper of Princeton University, as a specialist in the study of carbon and climate change, noted that mankind will continue to use coal and fossil fuels to produce energy for a long time, but with less damage to the environment owing to technology improvement.
Tom Stepien, CEO of Primus Power, as well as Jonathan Cohen from Eversheds Sutherland told about practical experience in development and implementation of energy storage systems, growth prospects of the market.

A significant event with the participation of leading scientists from all over the world was made possible thanks to the initiative of the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences (KazNANS) and the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NEA RK).
