Joint-stock company "Samruk-Energy" is actively involved in the implementation of the Republic’s new economic policy – “Nurly Zhol" program relating to development of power infrastructure.
The project of 45 MW wind farm construction in Yereymentau city was completed in 2015 in the framework of Industrialization Map. Electricity generated by the power plant will be used for the needs of international exhibition EXPO-2017 facilities’ infrastructure.
Preparation for the project of increasing the wind farm’s capacity by 50 MW is underway; this project is funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in conjunction with the Clean Technology Fund.
Commissioning of new turbine generator at JSC "Aktobe CHP" with capacity of 30 MW is scheduled for 2016, which will increase the plant capacity from 88 MW to 118 MW.
The project of Shardarinskaya HPP modernization is implemented in South Kazakhstan region in the framework of SPIID-2. In 2017, after completing of major renovation, the plant capacity will increase by 26% (from 100 MW to 126 MW). The project is implemented with the participation of the EBRD, which provides loan in tenge on preferential terms. The corresponding agreement with EBRD was signed on November 3, 2015 in London in the course of the official visit of the Head of State to the UK. A. Satkaliyev Chairman of the Board of "Samruk-Energy" JSC held a number of meetings and negotiations during Kazakh- British Business Council that resulted in signing of memorandums of understanding with “Innovator Capital Limited” and “Enzen Global Ltd”.
"We intend to develop cooperation in the field of innovation with the aim of selecting and implementing new technologies in the field of conventional coal power industry that will increase the added value and reduce the impact on the environment", - said Almassadam Satkaliyev.
Research in coal enrichment and gasification, implementation of projects on improvement of environmental performance of coal generation, development of renewable generation projects, namely, RES management systems and power storage systems, SmartGrid systems integration are of practical interest for “Samruk-Energy” JSC. Together with American company Primus Power Corporation is implementing a pilot project to install energy accumulating systems -EnergyCell based at 2 MW solar power plant in Kapchagay. This innovative technology will allow RES generation adapt more efficiently to Kazakhstan’s power system.
Over an effective period of ceiling tariffs from 2009 through 2015, subsidiaries which are in JSC "Samruk-Energy" group spent about 480 bln.tenge for creation of new assets, renovation, modernization, maintaining the level of production and current assets, environmental protection measures, of which 78,4 billion were spent this year. As a result of renovation and reconstruction, gaps between installed and available capacity were reduced by more than one-third (36%) or 961 MW (from 2647 MW to 1686 MW). The volume of ash emissions were reduced three times - from 108 to 36 thousand tons.
JSC "Samruk-Energy" continues carrying out targeted support for domestic producers by signing memorandums and long-term agreements in the framework of the RK Government initiative.
As per the order of the Head of State, given the outlook for economic situation in 2015, JSC “Samruk-Energy” reduced investments costs in the amount of over 28 bln. tenge (or 23%) and operating expenses totaling 9,4 billion tenge (or by 5%). Cost optimization in respect to operating and investment part of the budget across “Samruk-Energy” JSC group of companies was held in 2016 in the amount of 2,9 bln.tenge, including general and administrative expenses by 860 mln.tenge by reducing costs for labor remuneration , other financial payments to the staff, reduction of sponsorship, charity assistance, consulting, transport costs. Investment costs were reduced by 27 bln. tenge.
Total revenues in 2015 are expected to be 196,8 billion tenge, which is lower than revenues in 2014 by 22% (or 55,4 billion tenge) in connection with disposal of assets from consolidation, when selling in accordance with the RK Government Resolution under comprehensive privatization plan.
- JSC "Samruk-Energy" does not set itself a goal to sell assets. The company is willing to continue managing these enterprises, in case private investors will not be interested"- said Almassadam Satkaliyev.
JSC "Samruk-Energy" represents interests of the state in power industry by combining assets in the area of production, transmission and distribution of electricity, coal mining. In 2014, the share of electricity generation accounted for 30%, or 28.2 billion kWh, the share of installed capacity in Kazakhstan UES is 38% or 7959 MW, the share of coal production is 35,3%.
